Every year on ‘June 5th, we celebrate “World Environment Day”, by having special debates, group discussions, politicians preaching the benefits of saving our environment and most of the audience just there as they were forced to attend the event.

Each one, whoever is concerned for just a short time, talks about what could be the best solution for the environment, each pinning the solution either on the government, on the people or on the industries.

Each one is asked to sacrifice something or for that matter a major chunk of their income source which becomes a bone of contention. It’s only on this day that every talks about sustainable development or at least give a thought but its all for a day. This discussion may well be continued on the same date next year with a well prepared presentation deck on the repercussions on the environment we must have had over the past year.

Man has been very greedy!

And it is evident by the way we use resources. With Industrial revolution, smart technology, with the best minds people have misused resources. These resources may have been abundant in those times and no forethought was or is given even now as it still doesn’t have a major impact in India. I am aware of the water wars in countries like Africa, Singapore or Malaysia. I am sure there are going to be more wars on all things concerned starting with all the precious metals, Oil fields and finally circling over to mankind’s biggest reservoir of ours “Air”. People have a tendency to make light of this situation as it doesn’t affect them all at once.

Each human being wants to have the best of everything for him or for his family. In making the best we also aimed for profits with no thought on The government is unable to implement strategies as it leads one party or the other to sacrifice more, cut profits, which may lead to job losses, spend more on inventing and developing green technology which again balances the demand and supply and profit and loss ratios. Each individual need to own up this cause like there’s no option to move forward and go on with it to make this mission a successful and sustainable one.

It takes a deadly virus for all of us to be locked in our houses, use whatever resources to cope with this situation and at the same time feel miserable stating slogans and insta reels on social media. One look at the social media you would find all of them choosing to complain about it on all the social media possible, all this being done with all the luxuries in the world at their doorstep.

People have stopped travelling, going out only when it’s necessary giving a huge relief to the mother Nature. This could be a great lesson where mankind looked out for himself as a method of safe gaurding from himself and this same behaviour could be used to save environment. I personally think when things are concerned to protect and save our environment, we should capture this human behavior which is strict and disciplined, use this attitude of never stopping until the goal is achieved to drive all kinds promotions, solutions and steps to implement the change, make this situation a “Do or die” situation where every person fears for their life for the next day to come and would do anything necessary to save himself and the Earth to get depleted more.
